How to start living the lifestyle of your dreams

Slide1 This weekend, I took some time to stream some of the presentations at the May IIN Conference in New York. And one of the presenters, along with our very own Pete Evans, was Marie Forleo. Who quite frankly is one of the few people in this world who can make business and marketing sound fun, soulful and exciting! She has cured my deep hatred for anything marketing/sales related, and is the angel that is helping so many women and men out there market their business in a way that will change the world.

One part of her presentation that really struck me was this question:

“How would you behave if you were the best in the world at what you do?”

Wow! What a question! This question is all kinds of powerful!!

When we look at how we currently operate or behave in life – how we structure our days, what we value, how we make decisions – it is important to note that these somewhat small daily decisions and choices all add up to form what we know as our lifestyle. And these daily decisions and choices are all made from our current mindset and perception of our selves.

So how do you perceive yourself right at this very minute? How much do you value who you are, what you give to the world and the life that you live? Let’s find out by getting into the nitty-gritty of this incredible overarching question, with a few of the smaller questions to help us identify where we might be playing small.

Take a pen and paper, and answer the following questions. This will take a whole of 10 minutes so stop making excuses and just do it – you will thank me later!

Q. If you were the best in the world at what you do,..

… What time would you wake up in the morning?

… What would be the first thought in your mind when you wake up?

… What time would you start work?

… What would you spend the most time on?

… How much time would you spend on your own self-care?

(i.e exercise, hobbies, doing things that you love that nurture you and lift you up)

… What kind of people would you work with?

… What would you say 'no' to? What wouldn’t serve you?

… How would you spend your weekends?

… How would you make decisions? Out of fear or love?

Once you have noted down the answers to these questions (and feel free to go into further detail here and answer any other behavioural questions that apply to your everyday life), I want you to write down the answers again based on your current reality.

What time do you currently wake up? What do you spend the most time on at the moment? How much time are you currently devoting to self-care? What do you say 'no' to, or do you even say 'no' to anything at all? Are your current lifestyle decisions being made out of fear or out of love?

Now take a look at your two seperate groups of answers and compare. How different is your current behaviour to that of how you would behave if you were the best in the world at what you do? How do you treat yourself differently? How different are your priorities?

When we feel secure in our own talents and gifts, and have the utmost faith and trust in our direction and purpose, we give ourselves the permission to invest in ourselves. To do the things that make us feel whole, and that support our desires and happiness. We feel more open to moulding our life around what we want and need, instead of trying to work in what makes us happy into a rigid, disserving lifestyle that has us trapped and feeling stuck.

This exercise really helps us to identify whether or not we are actively living the lifestyle that we value and dream of, and pin point the areas of our life where we are either playing small or doing ourselves a massive disservice. All in all, this exercise has taught me three really important lessons:

[1] In order to achieve the lifestyle of our dreams, we need to be crystal clear on what that looks like. Down to the amount of white space in our calender, to what time the alarm clock goes off in the morning. If we can’t visualize it, we are going to have trouble manifesting it into our lives.

[2] It’s not the external, physical changes that are going to get you to this ideal lifestyle, but the internal shifts and changes in mindset. If you forever doubt your work, compare yourself to others, question the value of your work and contribution to this world, then you will never reach that point where you feel secure enough to take the reigns and begin moulding your life around what makes you happy and serves you. We need to be our own biggest cheerleader and back ourselves, first and foremost.

[3] You don’t need to be acclaimed as the very best in the world at what you do, in order to achieve success and your dream lifestyle. You can have it all right now. Because there is no one in the world that does what you do, in the same way you do it, with that certain flavour that you give. You are already the best in the world at what you do, for no-one can ever do exactly what it is you do. The world needs that special blend of magic that only you can give, so it's time to start acting like a PRO, and moulding your current lifestyle in a way that serves you to a tee, and enables you to share your magic with the world.

Is that not the best thing you have heard all day?! That you have it all inside you already and it’s all at your fingertips? So now that you know you’ve got it, what are you going to do with it?

It’s one thing to feel inspired as all hell, and feel like the opportunities are endless, BUT it’s another to actually ACT on it. Don’t let this be another thing that you read, enjoy, get a buzz from and then forget about. Make it stick. Share with me one thing that you are going to do this week that will move you even just a fraction closer to your ideal lifestyle. It might be something as small as repeating “I am good enough” to yourself each morning when you wake up. Or perhaps you are going to say no to that extra shift at work this week, so you can spend your day doing something that is more aligned with your own happiness and idea of success. What ever it is, make it official and make yourself accountable by writing it below, so I can be your cheerleader and help you along each step.
